Nominations are now open

Nominations for the 2017 Australian Book Industry Awards open today for the Books of the Year and New Writer of the Year categories.

The presentation of the awards is the biggest and most glamorous industry event in Australia’s literary calendar. The awards acknowledge the best books and brightest talent.

The ABIA longlist will be decided by an academy comprising more than a hundred industry professionals before an expert panel meets to produce the much-anticipated shortlist.

The award categories are listed below.

  • General Fiction Book of the Year
  • General Non-fiction Book of the Year
  • Biography Book of the Year
  • Book of the Year for Younger Children (age range 0 to 8 years)
  • Book of the Year for Older Children (age range 8 to 14 years)
  • Illustrated Book of the Year
  • International Book of the Year
  • Literary Fiction Book of the Year
  • Small Publishers’ Adult Book of the Year
  • Small Publishers’ Children’s Book of the Year
  • The Matt Richell Award for New Writer of the Year

There are only three weeks to submit so start your entries early. Nominations close 5pm AEDT Monday, February 20 and winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony at the Art Gallery of NSW on Thursday, May 25.
