AWARD CATEGORIES & ELIGIBILITY 

 

The ABIA 2024 Business Awards shortlists have been announced. Winners will be announced on Thursday 9 May.

 

Publisher of the Year  

This is an award for the Australian publisher with a turnover of more than $10 million whose publishing programme (including sales, promotion, editorial and production) demonstrated excellence, commensurate with the publisher’s size, in the preceding calendar year, and which contributed to the success of the industry.

Small Publisher of the Year 

This is an award for the Australian publisher with a turnover of less than $10 million whose publishing programme (including sales, promotion, editorial and production) demonstrated excellence, commensurate with the publisher’s size, in the preceding calendar year, and which has contributed to the overall success of the industry.

Bookshop of the Year Award

This award is for an individual physical bookshop in Australia that has demonstrated excellence over the course of the preceding calendar year. The bookshop may be part of a larger chain, but this award is for an individual store as listed on the entry form.

Commissioning Editor/Publisher of the Year 

This award is open to editors and publishers that have demonstrated excellence for their authors, the lists they look after and the overall publishing industry irrespective of genre or format. It will be open for anyone working in the Australian publishing industry whose day-to-day job includes commissioning new titles.

Marketing Strategy of the Year

This award is for the marketing professionals showcasing their talents across individual product lines and lists with imaginative, innovative and effective campaigns active in the preceding calendar year. A marketing strategy in context of this award could be a single book campaign, a campaign supporting an event or initiative, the creation of a genre or imprint specific marketing, or a branding initiative. This award is open for anyone working in marketing at an Australian publishing house, bookseller, or book charity/organisation.
